My name is Mai and I’m from Spain. I arrived in Nepal in October 2024 with the intention of relaxing and enjoying the unique beauty of this country. By chance, I met Padam, the founder and director of LEADS Nepal, who was looking for a volunteer to help create content and update the NGO's website. Although I had never done anything like this before, my passion for writing and my desire to contribute to social causes inspired me to give it a try.

At first, it was challenging to fully understand the scope of LEADS' work, as it spans a wide range of areas: mental health care, support for carers—who play a key role in their efforts—assistance for vulnerable groups, training through workshops and courses, the creation of mutual aid networks like cooperatives, and the generation of economic opportunities. It took me time to absorb and process all the information and create clear content that effectively and clearly explained LEADS Nepal's work in three remote districts, where communities face challenging living conditions.

Gradually, I came to understand that this NGO carries out an incredibly inclusive approach to breaking the cycle of extreme poverty and the hardships faced by individuals and families enduring profound suffering. Instead of relying on short-term aid, it empowers them by providing the tools they need to build a better future.

I’ve had the chance to read many heartfelt testimonies from individuals who have received support from LEADS Nepal, and these stories have deeply moved me. However, what has impacted me the most is the opportunity to experience it firsthand: during project visits and carers' meetings, I’ve witnessed dignity and hope reflected in countless faces, eyes, and smiles.

This enriching experience has allowed me to explore a unique country, with its majestic mountains and stunning nature, while also immersing myself in its culture and traditions. However, the greatest reward has been the opportunity to connect with warm, welcoming people whose simplicity and joy for life have taught me essential lessons.

I have had constant support from Padam and the entire LEADS Nepal team, whose help has been crucial in my adaptation and in making the most of this experience.

I hope I’ve contributed something meaningful to this NGO, as what I’ve received in return has been truly remarkable. The experiences and connections have touched me deeply, leaving a lasting impact on my heart.
